In a thrilling back-and-forth battle, the 12U team fought with everything they had in a high-stakes playoff game and when it came down to overtime, Geybrielle seized the moment. Scored the game winner and sent the Heroes into the championship game.
The play started with a strong breakout and textbook puck movement. Kevin O’Connor made a smart play in transition, moving the puck up to Liam McDonald, who entered the zone with speed. Driving hard to the net was Geybrielle Maasin, perfectly positioned for a rebound — and she made no mistake.
The puck hit her stick and hit the back of the net. Game over. Heroes win.
The goal capped off a gritty, hard-fought effort that showcased everything this team stands for: heart, hustle, and unity. From big defensive stops to clutch passes and goaltending under pressure, it was a full team effort that led to the final shot.
“It was an incredible moment for our kids,” said Coach Joe Lo Tempio. “A moment in their hockey careers they won’t forget. Most importantly, we did it together. Several players made huge plays throughout the game that got us a chance at the end.”
Coach Joe added:
“Our saying is ‘Together we can, together we will,’ and this game was the perfect example of that. They put in so much work to earn this opportunity and they worked together to find a way. ”
The excitement was felt throughout the rink teammates swarming Geybrielle and goaltender Brody Simonik in celebration, parents cheering with pride, and coaches smiling ear to ear. It wasn’t just about one goal it was about every step that led up to it.
